How to speak English fluently?

From the first moment we land a foreign country, we face with the challenge of talking in
the target language. If the migrated person could talk in the target language and be able to communicate with native speakers of the target language, he/she will more easily face with challenges. As an immigrant, we face with various daily issues, for example; making appointment with a doctor, go for grocery, opening bank account, etc. Consider an immigrant who is not able to communicate in the target society due to lack of linguistic skills in the target language. With help of translator or a family member, the person may be able to handle daily issues. But support and assistance is not always available for

As a result, many immigrants from first days of their migration look for language classes in order to develop their language skills. So here the role of an ESL teacher becomes critical. He/She could role play as a main support for the new immigrants. An ESL teacher could enhance the immigrant to easily uncultured in the target culture. An effective communication between the teacher and the learner in ESL (English As a Second Language) has great impact on the life of the immigrant. The immigrant should take this as an advantage. I, personally, have hands- on experience in both roles as an ESL student and as an ESL teacher. The main point I have learned in ESL classes as a student is not to be shy and express myself in the target language. Many language learners are afraid of making mistakes when they communicate in the target language. As a result they mostly hesitate to converse in language classes. And they put the learning opportunity aside from themselves. The learners should consider that their classmates are learners too. So it is completely fine to make mistakes. Without making mistakes no one could learn any language fluently. Another way ESL learners could help themselves in the process of learning is to use monolingual dictionary. Most of ESL learners prefer to use bilingual dictionaries. Because by assisting from their native language they could grasp meaning of new vocabularies. But this is not an effective way of learning new vocabularies. If learner uses monolingual dictionary more frequently he/she will be exposed to new vocabularies in a shorter period of time. As a result, in shorter period of time he/she could be able to learn the target language.

As an ESL teacher, I like to share two points which help students to be more motivated to learn the target language. Firstly, it is critical for teachers to welcome the students’ mistakes. If the teacher just applause his/her students to speak more in the class, students will no longer afraid of expressing themselves and talking. By this, the teacher provides a friendly learning environment. The second technique which could be useful is to respect the students’ cultural values. The teacher plays role as one of the main support sources for students. They should show to the student that they understand and respect cultural.
